First what is DBS?
DBS is a procedure of placement of electrodes into the brain in order to stimulate different structures. According to research around 42 million people suffer from some form of movement disorder in the United States. Deep brain stimulation surgery can help people with movement disorders including Parkinson's and epilepsy, reduce tremors and stop involuntary movements.
Issue
Currently there is no physical training model available on the market. Currently, physician training for this technology is limited to computer simulations, lectures, and observation of live cases which are not sufficient.
Clinical Need
A way to ameliorate inaccurate or insufficient data collected from DBS without the use of live cases for neurosurgeons and neurologists but still have a more hands-on simulation.
